U High Girls Win 2009 Sectional Championship

The girls team won the sectional title held at Lane Stadium in Chicago hosted bt Jones College Prep. Leah Sibener was the star of the meet winning the 100 meters and the 200 meters and taking 2nd in the 400qualifying for state in all 3 events. Aoife MacMahon won the 3200 and the 1600 while Sherry Fu was a few steps behind her in 2nd for both races. Both girls qualify for state in both events. The 4 x 800 relay took the title and qualified for state.That team was led by seniors Josey Mintel and Ethel Yang. Freshmen Emma Davis and Alex Chang join Ethel and Josey qualifying for state. Emily Kuo finished 2nd in the long jump and 2nd in the 800 and will go to state in both events. Jay Sah finished 3rd in the 100 hurdles and just missed a spot at the state final. Caroline Bank who was battling an ankle sprain just missed in the discus finishing 3rd. The girls win is their first Sectional Championship ever and last won a title in 1981 when the state series held District Championships which they won that year and then went on to place 3rd in the state meet. Congratulations to all the girls!

ISL Conference Meet

Congratulations to the boys and girls track teams as both finished 2nd in the ISL Conference Meet on Friday May 8. The boys scores= NSCD- 187, U HIgh- 107, Latin- 96, Parker- 78, Northridge-32, Elgin- 25. The girls scores- Latin- 136, U HIgh- 103, NS- 65, Parker- 28, Elgin- 17
In the girls: Leah Sibener won the 100, 200, 400 and was on the winning 4 x 400 relay of Emma Davis, Sherry Fu, Emily Kuo and Sibener. Emily Kuo also won the 800 and was on the winning 4 x 800 of Ethel Yang, Aoife MacMahon, Emma Davis and Kuo. Caroline Bank was the discus champion. Aoife MacMahon took first in a virtual tie with Sherry Fu in the 3200 run. Alex Chang was 2nd in the 800, Sarah Lloyd- 7th in the 100, Josey Mintel was 6th in the 1600 and 4th in the 3200. Jaya Sah was 4th in the 100 hurdles and 5th in the 300 hurdles. Leslie Sibener was 6th in the 300 hurdles. The 4 x 200 rleay of Marissa Guiang, Rose Cuneo Grant, Ary Hansen and Izzy Ruyter Harcourt was 3rd. Caroline Bank was 4th in the shot put followed bt Melita Aquino in 5th . Rose Cuneo Grant was 4th in the high jump while Marissa Guiang was 6th. Emily Kuo was 4th in the long jump followed by Sarah Lloyd in 5th. Ary Hansen was 5th in the triple jump. Emma Davis was 5th in the 400 to round out the scoring for U High.
For the boys- Joe Hurst won the 400 and was also the anchor on the winning 4 x 400 relay of Ben Bucheim-Jurisson, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Algee. Hurst wa also 2nd in the 100 followed by Nate Wise in 4th. Nate was 3rd in the 200 and Jonathon Jou was 7th. Ben BJ was 5th in the 800 while Dan Traub was 8th. In the 3200 Aaron Buikema was 3rd, Don Traubert 5th Stephen Heinz 10th and Kevin Brunke 11th. Ben Hain took 5th in the 300 hurdles and Andrew Palmer 8th. The 4 x 100 of Hurst, Walter Bourdaghs, Zack Reneau- Wedeen and Nate Wise was 2nd place. The 4 x 200 relay of Justin Algee, Jon Jou, Zack Reneau - Wedeen and Nate Wise was 2nd. The 4 x 800 of JR Mahung, Thomas Aquino,Ben B-Jurisson and Don Traubert was DQ'ed but ran 8:38. In the 1600 Aaron Bukema took 3rd followed by Thomas Aquino in 4th and Don Traubert in 5th. Michael Bissonette took 6th in the shot put followed by Stephen Heinz in 7th. Stephen took 4th in the discus and Isaac Stanley Becker took 5th. Mitchell Stern was 2nd in the long jump while Justin Algee was 5th. Justin took 2nd in the high jump only because he had more misses than the winner. He was followed bt JR Mahung in 5th. Michael Shapiro was 7th in the triple jump followed by Stephen Heinz in 8th.
The girls team competes on friday at the Jones Sectional to be held at Lane Tech HS.
